Since yesterday 26 October, Mauritius is officially in Summer time. So the country time zone is now GMT+05:00 instead of GMT+04:00.
Practically it means that we will take advantage of the benefits of prolonged summer day light. Means late shopping and other activities in a country where there are almost nobody on the streets in the absence of natural light.
But most importantly, the country might make significant savings in terms of electricity consumption especially by households, at a time where the country is aspiring to play a leading role in terms of sustainable development.
However some people or organisations have also voice out their fear or objections against the negative consequences of summer time pilot project implementation.
Enjoy the summertime till march 2009 and let us hope that the whole country will benefit from this new experience...
